Preliminary study to a conservation-restoration treatment of the Triptych of the Preaching of Saint John the Baptist by Frans II Pourbus (1569-1622), Church of the Sacred Heart of Aalst | Royal Institute for Cultural Heritage
The Triptych of the Preaching of Saint John the Baptist is traditionally attributed to Frans Pourbus the Younger (1569-1622) and may date to c. 1591-1600. Several interventions have been carried out on the artwork, including overpaintings, which have altered the triptych so that the original parts – of great quality – are no longer visible. The preliminary study, funded by the Périer-D’Ieteren Foundation, will make it possible to assess the extent of the conservation-restoration treatment to be carried out.
